Am I seeing the same critter or multiple ones?
I thought I caught a glimpse of Miss B going past the door, but she was so fast I was not sure I had seen anything. Being able to go and check is the thing this whole rig is for.
My son spotted an opossum out there a couple of nights after we moved in, and the opossum is my girlfriend’s favorite animal, so we started watching for them. The camera came a good while later.
Of everything that has come through the yard since, the only non-raccoon we have put a name to is an opossum. Nobody planned that. Her name is Miss B.
The night she came back
We had not seen her in a long time. Then one night in August I thought I caught a glimpse of something going past the door, and she was so fast I was not sure I had seen anything at all.
So I went to the site and pulled up the footage from that hour, and there she was, scurrying along the top of the wall. A few minutes later she came back and scavenged around for a while.

The part that did the work was being able to go back and check.
The pipeline did its half of it. It did not put her name on her, because the individual naming is not set up for her yet. It did say that an opossum visited.
Which is the arrangement I have ended up with all over this thing. The system tells me the species, and it is good at that. I confirm who it actually was.
And now I think there are two of them
Lately I do not believe we are looking at one opossum any more.
You can see it across the visits once you have a few to compare. They are not all the same size, and a couple of them have bald patches in different spots. I am fairly sure we have more than one coming through now, where before it was just her.
Which is the thing I am always trying to work out at that window, and the reason any of this exists. Am I seeing the same critter, or multiple ones?
For the raccoons I answer it by eye, one visit at a time, and click it in by hand. For the opossums I have not worked out how to start.
