Six Degrees of Play

Named after a feature it didn't have

I called it Six Degrees of Play. For the longest time it couldn't actually find the degrees between two games. Codex is the one that pointed that out.

I named this thing Six Degrees of Play, after the old six-degrees-of-separation idea. The promise being that you can get from any game to any other game in a handful of hops. Good name. For the longest time the app couldn’t do it. You couldn’t pick two games and ask it for the chain between them. The one feature the whole name is built on, and it was not in there.

I didn’t notice. Codex did. I was handing it jobs and at some point it called the whole thing out: nice namesake, missing feature.

Fair. So we built it. It was the kind of thing I had been putting off because it sounded hard, and it ended up being fun, so we iterated on it a bunch and I kept it in. You pick two games and watch it thread a path between them, hop by hop, through whatever connects them.

It is not a family tree, exactly. But filter by studio and you get pretty close to one.
